by Californians for Justice category: Education
Sixty-four years after the landmark Supreme Court decision Brown vs. Board of Education called for the desegregation of our schools, our education system is still separate and still unequal. In California, we know our state’s brilliance and prosperity depend on the success of our school system's ability to help all young people fulfill their dreams and reach their potential so it's up to us to #ReclaimBrownVBoard and make racial justice a reality.
On May 17, join us as we #ReclaimBrownVBoard and say "#DearRacisminSchool, your time is over!" Sign up for our Thunderclap and write your own #DearRacismInSchool letter to share out on social media. Together we can challenge the problem of systemic racism head-on and change our schools for the better!
Sample Student Letter:
“Dear Racism in Schools, You have overstayed your welcome. You have negatively impacted the development of too many of our students, especially youth of color. You give us the illusion that we are incompetent which is something we are anything but. While you have been deeply ingrained into our schools and institutions it is now time we part. You will be replaced with solidarity, love, and constant evolution.”
