After hearing my
daughter in the bath one night talking about how beautiful her one size fits all, skinny doll's body was,
I knew I needed to create change. I have designed and developed a doll range
based around the body shapes of fruit. You can’t have a fruit salad with only
one fruit, nor can we have a society that only represents one main body type,
especially when it comes to our children.
After travelling to
China with my designs and a heartful of dreams, I now have two prototypes of
the dolls I have worked so passionately to bring to life. I would like to
introduce you to the 3D model of Abby Apple, who has a larger torso, and
Penelope Pear, who has wide hips and a smaller upper body.
These dolls have been created to have a softer touch than regular, hard plastic dolls, they will be skin colour and hopefully in time, reflect ethnic diversity as well.
These dolls have been
created in the hopes of encouraging children to recognise that we don’t all
have to look the same and that you can be healthy in more than one size.
