With the summer holidays officially starting on 23 July, we know that this is the time many people feel bad about their bodies, as they are constantly bombarded with ‘beach body ready’ adverts, pictures and magazine features.
Our research confirmed that young people are heavily influenced by the unrealistic images they see. More than half of young people regularly worry about the way they look, 55% have been bullied about their appearance and more than a third (36%) of young people are willing to do ‘whatever it takes to look good’.
We think that this isn’t right and no one, especially young people, should spend their summer holidays worrying about what they look like.
This is why we’re calling on people everywhere to champion positive body image and take a stand against the unrealistic images they see by signing our Body Image Pledge.
Founded by YMCA England & Wales and Dove the Be Real Campaign is working to create a body confident nation by changing attitudes to body image.
