19 July 2018: Changing Places Awareness Day
Join us in celebrating toilet access and raising awareness about why Changing Places toilets are needed!
Who needs Changing Places toilets?
Standard accessible toilets meet the needs of some disabled people – but not all. Over ¼ million people and their families and carers rely on Changing Places toilets to go out and do things many take for granted. This includes people with muscle-wasting conditions, profound and multiple learning disabilities, multiple sclerosis, as well as some older people.
A Changing Places toilet is different from a standard accessible toilet. It provides a hoist, a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench and additional space. There are over 1,000 in the UK.
What do we want to happen?
Muscular Dystrophy UK and PAMIS are the co-chairs of the Changing Places Consortium. The Consortium is campaigning for Changing Places toilets to be installed in all large public places, like shopping centres, hospitals, transport hubs and airports. We want every disabled person to be able to access a toilet that meets their needs.
