Stop #RighttoWork in Michigan!

Gov. Snyder and the Michigan legislature are ramming through a so-called "right to work" (RTW) law. Despite the name, these laws have nothing to do with rights or work. They are designed to weaken, defund, and destroy workers' ability to have a voice at their workplace, and they hurt union AND non-union workers alike.

  • Workers make an average of $1,500 less a year
  • 21% fewer workers have health insurance
  • The average poverty rate is higher, 12.5% in RTW states compared to 10.2% in free bargaining states
  • Workplace injuries and fatalities are more 51% more common
Gov. Snyder and other Republican leaders in Michigan previously opposed such a bill. Suddenly, on December 6, 2012, Gov. Snyder held a press conference urging the legislature to pass RTW, and said he would sign it. With no hearings, the bill was rammed through both the Michigan House and Senate, while Michiganders were blocked from entering the building.

Insidiously, the legislators added an appropriation of $1 million taxpayer dollars, a trick to keep the RTW issue from being placed on the ballot for a referendum, where the people of Michigan could make their voices heard.

The rights of all Michigan workers are being trampled, and Gov. Snyder and legislative allies don't want anyone to notice. Sign our petition and join our fight for Michigan working families.

In 1961, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had this to say about so-called "right to work" laws:

"In our glorious fight for civil rights, we must guard against being fooled by false slogans such as 'right to work.' It is a law to rob us of our civil rights and job rights."

That still stands today. If this bill becomes law in Michigan, it will hurt ALL Michigan families, union AND non-union. Please join our Thunderclap and make your voice heard.
