HIV Awareness. Take Action!

Did you know that about 27,000 women and girls in the U.S. do not know they are HIV-positive? One in four people with HIV in the United States are women or girls over the age of 13.

On March 10, National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, the Office on Women’s Health asks you to offer support and hope to all women and girls. Help us reduce the stigma of HIV and empower the women in your life to:

  • Get tested. (Go to http://locator.aids.gov/)
  • Talk about HIV with their friends and family.
  • Get treatment if they are HIV-positive.
  • Prevent HIV.

We can all support National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Click “Support with Twitter” or “Support with Facebook” and get the word out to your followers and friends to do the same.
  2. Visit www.womenshealth.gov/nwghaad for ideas on how you can take action.
  3. On Monday, March 10, watch as everyone's messages are shared all at once.

  • Thank you for supporting #NWGHAAD!

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (#NWGHAAD) was a big day! What made it even better was having a successful HIV Awareness. Take Action! Thunderclap.

Because of your support, we reached 123% of the Thunderclap goal. That means we had a social reach of 1,217,106. We couldn’t have done this without you!!

Thanks for all you are doing to prevent HIV and to support women and girls who are HIV-positive.

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is an annual observance coordinated by the Office on Women’s Health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. On March 10, we want everyone to help us share knowledge about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls. Throughout March, we ask you to organize events to help women and girls to take action. Your events can help women get tested, find health care, and prevent HIV. Help us “Share Knowledge. Take Action.”
