Don't get sidelined with a DWI

Your team didn’t make it to Sunday's big game. So what? There are more important things to worry about, like the fact that thousands are killed and injured every year in alcohol-related crashes.

You can help stop drunk driving. You can save lives.

Here’s how:

  • Have a plan for a sober ride before you party.
  • Use safe alternatives: Designate a sober driver, take a cab or public transportation, or crash on a friend’s couch so you don’t crash on the road.
  • Report impaired driving: Find a safe place to call 911 if you see erratic driving. Be prepared to provide location, driver behavior, and a license plate.
More information on impaired driving — including fact sheets, public service announcements and other resources — is available at http://ow.ly/sSGnX

  • Time's almost up

    January 31, 2014
It has been exciting to watch the support for this important message grow over the past 10 days.

In just over 24 hours more than 117,000 people will be reminded to line up a sober driver for Super Bowl Sunday.

We hope we can help someone make the right decision and save some lives. Thanks again to everyone who joined us.

Let's see how much more support we can get today. Tell your friends how they can help tackle drunk driving.
  • We did it! Thank you!

    January 29, 2014
You’ve supported our Thunderclap and for that we thank you.

Now it’s time to get everyone you know on board.
The more people who stand up against drunk driving, the better.

Please share our Thunderclap with your friends and encourage them to join us in sharing this our important message about drinking and driving and sober drivers.

  • Four more days

    January 28, 2014
    We're more than halfway there.

Thank you so much to all of our wonderful supporters. Please continue to encourage your friends and family to help us spread our important message about drinking and driving.

More than 23,800 motorists were arrested last year in Minnesota for DWI. In 2012, there were 28,418 impaired driving incidents and 131 drunk driving-related deaths.

  • The countdown is on!

    January 27, 2014
We have five days to get 162 more people to help us spread the word about the consequences of drunk driving. Thank you to everyone who has already given this important cause their support.

If people need to be convinced to support the message, have them check out DWI confessions -- real stories from real people.

If you haven’t already, please let your friends and family know about this important message and ask them to support our cause.

  • Can you get two more friends to join the Thunderclap today?

    January 24, 2014

We have eight days to get 200 more people to help us spread the word about the consequences of drunk driving. Thank you to everyone who has already given this important cause their support.

Can you get two more friends to join the Thunderclap today?

If they need convincing, have them check out our DWI confessions -- real stories from real people.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) seeks to reduce the number of Minnesota traffic deaths and serious injuries.

The annual number of traffic deaths in Minnesota has decreased more than 40 percent from a decade ago. There are many contributing factors for the continuing reduction in road deaths, including safer vehicles, and improving driver behavior.
