SeaYouthRiseUp for the OCEANS

Sea Youth Rise Up is a collaborative effort facilitated by The Ocean Project and the World Oceans Day network in partnership with the Big Blue & You and the Youth Ocean Conservation Summit, with support from NOAA, the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, the Ocean Foundation, JetBlue and the Coastal Ecosystem Learning Center network.
A short documentary will be produced highlighting this event and the journey of these young people, which will be distributed through an online platform to schools, as well as zoo and aquarium youth programs across the country through the World Oceans Day network, with growing engagement opportunities throughout the year. This documentary will highlight specific, actionable items developed by young people to engage their peers in efforts to reduce plastic pollution, combat climate change, and protect marine wildlife and their habitats, as well as engage a greater youth audience in future World Oceans Day campaigns.

With nearly half of the world’s population under age 25, it is imperative that we empower young people to step us as leaders at an early age, and engage them in a solutions oriented approach to ocean conservation. Sea Youth Rise Up will bring seven youth leaders to New York City and Washington D.C. to host a youth call to action for ocean conservation address live streamed on YouTube via Hangouts on Air (Google+) to an audience of nearly ten thousand students on a global scale, while meeting with world leaders in New York City and Washington D.C. to discuss the importance of youth leadership in ocean conservation.
